Expanded accreditation for laser power and energy measurement

17.01.2024 - MKS Instruments has received ISO/IEC 17025 certification for its Ophir Photonics calibration laboratory in Darmstadt, Germany.

The scope of the accreditation covers MKS Ophir’s photodiode, pyroelectric, and thermopile laser power and energy sensors, as well as its power and energy displays and virtual meters. ISO/IEC 17025 is given to calibration laboratories that have achieved the highest standards of quality, administration, and technical operations, thereby ensuring the highest accuracy, as measured by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

All of MKS Ophir’s calibration laboratories are now ISO/IEC 17025 accredited: Jerusalem, Israel, North Logan, Utah, Omiya-ku, Japan, and Darmstadt, Germany.

Markus Schmiedt, manager of the European Calibration Lab in Darmstadt, Germany, stated, “European customers that are required to have the re-calibration done by a lab with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation benefit from shorter lead times as their equipment does not need to be shipped to international labs. Calibration certificates issued in our European lab will now automatically carry the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.”

ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation ensures that Ophir’s calibration laboratories operate under controlled and approved working procedures, the equipment and calibration standards used are regularly calibrated by other ISO/IEC 17025 certified, and NIST traceable laboratories and the uncertainty values communicated to customers have a solid foundation based on rigorous experimental and statistical analysis.
