Innovations for object detection and distance measurement

Advertorial - IPF

ipf electronic presents two new products with interesting properties: the optical IO-Link button OT340571 and the laser distance sensor PT340070.

Conventional optical sensors sometimes have major problems when detecting deep black objects and shiny or transparent components, which means that the detection is sometimes not always completely error-free. However, the new optical button OT340571 with background suppression can overcome such challenges due to its technical properties.

Significantly higher process reliability

The response behavior of the sensor, which works with point-shaped blue light (wavelength 450nm), is completely independent of the shape, color and structure of the objects to be detected. This means that the OT340571 is characterized by significantly higher process reliability compared to conventional red light buttons.

Thanks to its compact design (34mm x 12mm x 20mm), the OT340571 in a robust ABS housing (protection class IP67 or IP69k) with M8 connector is also suitable for installation in applications with limited installation space. The device with a switching distance of 10mm to 200mm is designed for use with ambient temperatures from -20° C to +60° C and has a push-pull switching output.

Background suppression, in which the sensor only detects objects in a previously precisely defined sensing area, can be precisely adjusted via teach-in or via the integrated IO-Link interface. IO-Link also provides users with additional interesting features for practical use, such as: B. the setting of a window function, an on/off delay or frequency monitoring, to name just a few examples. Due to the visible blue light spot, the sensor can be aligned very easily in an application and is therefore ready for operation within a very short time.

Demanding measurement and control tasks?

For precise measurement and control tasks such as: B. a dancer control, in which the so-called material sag is measured using a dancer, or to control the diameter of roll materials, very precise solutions with a high level of repeatability are necessary. Properties with which the new laser sensor PT340070 from ipf electronic is completely convincing.

The sensor with M8 connector complements ipf electronic's product portfolio of solutions for precise detection and measurement of objects using color-independent laser triangulation. Due to its extremely compact design in a robust plastic miniature housing (protection class IP67), the PT340070 is ideal for robotics applications.

Individual settings via IO-Link

The range of the device is 20mm to 100mm and is set either simply via teach-in or via the integrated IO-Link interface. The sensor is designed for applications with ambient temperatures from -20° C to +60° C.
As with the optical button presented above, this laser sensor also has the option of making a whole range of application-specific settings via IO-Link, e.g. B. to choose between different teaching methods, to invert the characteristic curve or to evaluate the signal quality of the sensor.

In addition to an analog output (1...10V) with a resolution of 0.12mm and linearity of ±0.25mm, the PT340070 has a switching output (push-pull) with which a switching window can be set using two switching points. The sensor also impresses with its high repeatability of <0.25mm.
