Inspecting adhesive beading on car windscreens

A new high-speed inspection system has been developed for the automobile industry, based on Micro-Epsilon's Scancontrol 2710 system. It detects the quality of adhesive beads as soon as they have been applied during the vehicle assembly process. The Beadmonitor system, developed in the UK, measures the height and width of the polyurethane adhesive beads while they are being applied to the edges of the screen. The sensor head is mounted directly behind the nozzle at the end effector of a robot. The sensor head can be easily set and configured. more

Profile scanners (model scanCONTROL 2800-25) from Ortenburg-based sensor specialist Micro-Epsilon are able to generate digital 3D images of gear teeth and can be used to measure the run-out characteristics of gear shafts with plug-in toothing, bevel gears with hypoid toothing and similar axial components. more

Extended Range of ThermoImager Infrared Cameras

Micro-Epsilon has extended its range of thermoImager TIM infrared cameras. Due to further research and development of the TIM system using new components and a modified FPA detector, the cost of the camera has been reduced significantly. The thermoImager TIM 160/DK system has been customised for use in applications where high performance is required. In addition to the IR camera with standard lens, the system includes a wide angle and a telephoto lens, a mounting tripod and all necessary calibration documents. The system is supplied in an easy to handle aluminium case. more

Laser Triangulation up to a Distance of 2 m

Micro-Epsilon has launched a new laser sensor: the optoNCDT 1710-1000. The sensor has a measuring range that starts from a distance of one metre from the sensor, so displacement can be measured at a distance of 2 m from the sensor. The sensor comes with an integrated controller in compact 200 x 83 x 48 mm housing. The diameter of the light spot is constant across the complete beam path. With a measuring rate of 2.5 kHz, the sensor provides 100 µm resolution without averaging. 4 ... 20 mA, 0 ... 10 V, RS422 or USB outputs are available. more

Optimised Metal Strip Inspection

Micro-Epsilon has completely revised the design of its measurement system for metal strip. The new system for thickness and profile inspection provides a much larger measuring gap of 190 mm, almost three times larger than its predecessor. In addition, the system can now reliably measure corrugated and vibrating metal strip. Rather than using the previous point-type laser sensors, profile sensors are now installed, which measure significantly better on many different strip materials and which greatly increase the monitoring range. more

New Low Cost Laser Sensors

The new low cost optoNCDT1302 laser sensor from Micro-Epsilon replaces the optoNCDT 1300 in the product range. Compared to its predecessor, this model provides a measuring rate of 750Hz and is available for the first time with an RS422 port in addition to the analogue current / voltage output. The sensor has a trigger and a teach-in input, which enables the user to individually adjust the measuring range.

Another special feature of the sensor is the integrated peak evaluation for selection of the first, last or highest peak measurement. more

Inspection of Bearing Shell Presence at Volvo

optoControl optical micrometers from Micro-Epsilon are being used during engine production at Volvo in Sweden. The sensors of the optoControl 1202 series measure the diameter of bearing caps and therefore automatically verify whether a bearing shell is present in the cap or not before being mounted by a robot. The bearing caps are transported on a workpiece carrier directly under the light band of the sensor. A robot picks up the bearing cap and lifts it so that the light band measures approx. 3 mm to the bottom edge of the bearing cap. more
