Olympus Microscopy: meeting industrial quality standards and scientific discovery needs
For over 80 years, Olympus has been one of the world's leading manufacturers in the opto-digital industry. As one of the biggest and most respected providers of microscope systems, Olympus offers a comprehensive portfolio of professional solutions for all market requirements. These range from entry-level inspection microscopes to high-end systems, enabling pioneering research and routine applications in material science and metallography. Furthermore, Olympus offers a wide range of microscopes and accessories for observing surfaces and the quantitative analysis of microstructures.
From Conventional Microscopy to Advanced Digital Imaging Solutions
Microscopy is an indispensable tool for material science, as well as industrial research, development and inspection. With modern advancements in digital photography and image processing, analysis and archiving, the scope of applications for industrial microscopy has developed significantly. Modern manufacturing processes demand the most professional and precise microscope system solutions, while users expect a reliable, first class service. To this end, Olympus develops both hardware and software tailored for microscope-based digital imaging, in which all components are optimally integrated to provide a complete systems solution. Olympus users also get total peace of mind with comprehensive service and support at all times. With its spectrum of products, Olympus covers the requirements of all market areas with systems for inspection and metrology, as well as devices for scientific research.
Cutting Edge 3-D Surface Metrology - The LEXT OLS4000
As the latest addition to the hardware portfolio, the LEXT OLS4000 confocal laser microscope combines high resolution (down to 120 nm) with outstanding slope detection capabilities and easy operation. In the materials field, applications ranging from the manufacture of ski bases to the micro-analysis of solar cell surfaces require the accurate imaging of surface topographies on an increasingly smaller scale. Therefore, Olympus is deeply involved in the development of systems to provide surface topography data of the highest quality and accuracy. Enabling advanced research and routine inspection in material science, the Olympus LEXT OLS4000 incorporates a 405 nm laser and dual pinholes. These operate simultaneously to ensure that the system provides outstanding clarity and resolution, as well as enabling steep slope detection up to 85º. As a result, even the most complex surface topologies can be imaged and analysed with high resolution and clarity.
Documentation and Analysis Technologies - Stream 1.6
Olympus offers the Stream 1.6 software suite, making advanced analysis and archiving easy to perform for all users, regardless of expertise. By displaying only the required features at any given time, Olympus Stream provides the ideal level of complexity to effectively meet any user requirements. Furthermore, this software is completely future-ready, with the ability to support the ever increasing demand for high quality imaging and analysis. These advances include large scale client/server data management solutions, virtual microscopy, online discussions and real time measurements.
The quantitative analysis options include all measurement types, such as lengths, angles, counting, and phase analysis based on threshold values. In addition, the platform can be upgraded to provide access to a large number of more in-depth, application-specific analyses via the Olympus Stream Solutions. These optional modules include layer thickness measurement; the cast iron module for measuring graphite in cast iron (size, form and distribution); and the non-metallic inclusion rating in steel module.
